Ilie Ionescu is the founder of the Bucharest Trio. He was born in Craiova (Romania) in 1946; Ilie graduated with the highest honors at the “C. Porumbescu” Conservatory in Bucharest.

He has carried out an intense concert activity as a solo performer and with the most important Romanian orchestras and in Italy with the orchestra of the Arena of Verona, the Marchigiana Orchestra, the Rai (Radio Symphony) Orchestra of Naples, the orchestra of Teatro “Petruzzelli” of Bari and the orchestra of Teatro “San Carlo” of Naples.

Since 1979 he performed as First cello in the Orchestra of Teatro “San Carlo” of Naples. Later he was invited, with the same role, from the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and from Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. His performances took place in the most important Italian theatres in Rome, Naples, Milan and in the festivals of Sorrento, Ischia, Ravello and Linz. His cello was made by L. Ventapane in 1850.
